Fenerbahçe's head coach, José Mourinho, has been handed a three-match suspension and a fine of around £6,000 by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) after a heated incident during the Turkish Cup quarter-finals against Galatasaray, as reported by Reuters.
Following Fenerbahçe's 2-1 loss, a brawl broke out involving several players, which led to three red cards being issued—two to players from Galatasaray. In the midst of the commotion, Mourinho confronted Galatasaray's coach, Okan Buruk, and pinched his nose, causing Buruk to collapse to the ground. This led to Mourinho being banned from the dressing room and team bench for the upcoming matches against Trabzonspor, Sivasspor, and Kayserispor.
This isn't the first time Mourinho has faced disciplinary action in Turkey. Back in February 2025, he received a four-match ban and a hefty fine of £35,000 for making offensive remarks about Turkish referees and allegedly using racist language after a goalless draw with Galatasaray. He had criticized the officials, claiming that the Galatasaray bench was "jumping like monkeys" after an early challenge, which sparked accusations of racism and led to further disciplinary measures.
Currently, Fenerbahçe is in second place in the Süper Lig standings, trailing leaders Galatasaray by six points, although they do have one game in hand.
