Mika Biereth, a former Arsenal striker, has been making waves in Europe with his impressive goal-scoring form, leaving his former club wondering what could have been. The 22-year-old, who never made a first-team appearance for Arsenal, has been in prolific form for Monaco, scoring 10 goals in just seven Ligue 1 games.
According to MIRROR, Biereth's journey began with loan spells at RKC Waalwijk, Motherwell, and Sturm Graz, where he impressed with his skills. Sturm Graz eventually signed him permanently for £4 million last summer, and he went on to score 11 goals in 16 Austrian Bundesliga games. His impressive form caught the attention of Monaco, who signed him for a reported €13 million (£10.7 million) plus add-ons in January.
Arsenal, on the other hand, is facing a striker crisis, with both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz suffering season-ending injuries. The Gunners have been struggling to find the back of the net, with winger Leandro Trossard and central midfielder Mikel Merino filling in up front. Manager Mikel Arteta has been experimenting with different formations, but the team's lack of a recognized senior striker has been evident.
Arteta recently spoke about his team's struggles, saying, "We tried and adapting the quality that we have... probably they are not about arriving in the box and creating some magic moments, they are other kind of players." He acknowledged that the team is missing a key piece up front, saying, "I know that what's lacking is that piece up there... we need to find the solution to unlock it."
As Arsenal continues to struggle, Biereth's success with Monaco serves as a reminder of what could have been. The young striker's impressive form has left many wondering if Arsenal was too quick to let him go.
