Real Madrid has officially commenced negotiations with Vinicius Junior over a new contract, but the Brazilian forward's representatives have rejected the club's initial offer, according to CaughtOffside. The 24-year-old winger is currently contracted to the Spanish giants until 2027, with a staggering €1 billion release clause.
However, Vinicius's camp is reportedly seeking a salary increase that reflects his status as one of the world's top players. His current net annual earnings stand at approximately €15 million, supplemented by bonuses, including one for winning FIFA's Best Men's Player award.
Vinicius has been linked with a potential move abroad, with Saudi Pro League clubs and Chelsea reportedly showing interest. Despite the speculation, the Brazilian has consistently expressed his desire to remain at Real Madrid for the long haul.
"I'm still only 24," Vinicius said in October. "I want to stay here forever and contribute as much as possible to this team, which has given me everything since I arrived."
Since joining Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius has made 293 appearances, scoring 101 goals and providing 83 assists. He has won numerous titles, including three La Liga championships, two Champions Leagues, and two FIFA Club World Cups.
This season, Vinicius has been in outstanding form, netting 16 goals and assisting 10 more in 28 appearances across all competitions. Real Madrid executives and Vinicius's representatives, including a family member, met at the club's Valdebebas training facility in mid-January to initiate contract talks. Although the first offer was rejected, negotiations are expected to continue.
