Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs under President Goodluck Jonathan, has appeared in a magistrate court in Abuja to face trial on allegations of false marriage, adultery, and criminal intimidation, according to Legit NG.
The prosecution alleges that Turaki deceitfully induced a woman, Hadiza Musa Bafta, into believing they were married and had a sexual relationship with her, resulting in a child. The allegations also claim that Turaki abandoned the woman and child and threatened to use his influence to harm them.
Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), pleaded not guilty to the allegations when they were read to him in court. His defense counsel, A. I. Mohammed, applied for bail, which was granted by the presiding magistrate, Abubakar Jega, at N1 million with two sureties.
The trial is set to commence on March 11, and Turaki's sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court and provide evidence of their residence.
It is worth noting that the allegations against Turaki are serious and, if proven, could have significant consequences for his reputation and career. However, it is also important to remember that he has pleaded not guilty and is entitled to a fair trial.
