Manchester City's struggles continued with a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, and Erling Haaland's recent form has been a major concern, but Pep Guardiola has jumped to his defense, insisting the Norwegian striker is not to blame for the team's woes, GossipGram reports.
Haaland has scored only once in his last six matches, and his lack of goals has coincided with Manchester City's dismal run of form, which has seen them lose nine of their last 12 matches. Despite his struggles, Haaland took responsibility for the team's poor run, stating that he needs to be more clinical and do better to help his teammates.
However, Guardiola refuted Haaland's claims, insisting that the team's problems cannot be attributed to one player. "I don't agree with him," Guardiola said in the post-match conference, according to Mirror. "Without him, we would be even worse. I like players to be that way. It's the only chance we have to get better."
Guardiola emphasized that Haaland needs better deliveries and openings from his teammates to get back to his goalscoring best. The City boss also acknowledged that the team's recent performances have been subpar, but he remains optimistic about their chances of turning their season around.
